Giving the stork a future means maintaining its habitat. In the past, the white stork has lost a large portion of its natural habitat due to intensive farming, over-fertilization and wetland drainage. Where it once made its nests, the white stork now flies past, in search of intact breeding grounds.

If we want the white stork to return to our area, we will have to protect and improve its habitat and restore destroyed habitats.

THE STORK FOUNDATION acquires large areas of valuable meadowland and restores them to their natural state. These areas are then leased to farmers exclusively on the condition that they are used for limited farming while adhering to strict guidelines that allow nature to recover.

Individual measures designed to preserve the white stork are subsidized, and research is supported. We now understand the white stork better and are making our preserves more attractive to them.
